23. One Room Schoolhouses

The idea of a providing a modern education for children in the context of a one room schoolhouse is an intriguing one.  This fascination might be due to a long-time love affair with the Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder.  It might be a response to the interesting work coming out of a group at Stanford University called the School Redesign Network which, among other things, speaks to the value of creating smaller learning communities at the secondary level.  It might be due to the discovery that, though very few in number, true one room school houses still exist – as profiled on NPR. More thought needed…
