There is a new school in Chicago that opened in the fall of 2009 called Garfield Park Preparatory Academy. It is a collaborative effort bringing together the Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. The school is described as being “built on principles fundamental to Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).” ABA is actually a much deeper and broader discipline than is often portrayed in the media (many folks know it only as a treatment for children with autism). At the end of the day – ABA really is the science of learning. Garfield Park Preparatory Academy’s bold attempt to meet the needs of children in a very under-served community feels to me like a very good use of a very good science. Good luck to them!
