Design Thinking

Design thinking is a human-centered approach to innovation that draws from the designer’s toolkit to integrate the needs of people, the possibilities of technology, and the requirements for business success.” —Tim Brown, president and CEO of IDEO

IDEO’s partnership with RAFT – Resource Area For Teaching is a great example of how design thinking can support innovation in education.  RAFT is a non-profit organization in California that transforms things that would otherwise be discarded into materials that support “hands-on” teaching.  They assemble kits of the donated materials, create idea sheets to accompany the kits, provide training for educators, and make all of these resources available at a very low cost.  A winning idea.
