Learning to Count: Part 3

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

At last, part three!  Here your child will be introduced to number words one to five and will have the opportunity to use beans to show quantity without the counting dots as a guide.  This activity is best shared only after the other skills that we have talked about have been mastered.  This activity is appropriate even for the pre-reading set because the order of the numbers will act as a clue to help them guess what the written words mean.  After all, even skilled grown-up readers rely in context clues to understand the meaning of new words!

On a roll? With these skills nowsolid, you may want to expand the activity with numbers up to ten or even twenty!  We will also talk about other important building blocks for number sense in the coming months!
