Learn: Catching Kindness

I am a big fan of On Being by Krista Tippett on NPR.  She  did an interview with a gentleman by the name of Dr. Richard Davidson who founded the Center for Investigating Healthy Minds in Madison, Wisconsin.  The whole interview is worth listening to but the three tidbits that caught my attention were: (1) Most psychological research is focused on unhealthy minds.  The Dalai Lami encouraged Dr. Davidson to flip the paradigm.  (2) As those with experience in the behavioral sciences know, there is no such thing as a “hard wired” feature of a person’s behavior – it is more a question of probability.   (3) What he learned from studying monks & other expert meditators is now being used to create a curriculum for young children in an effort to increase the likelihood that they will demonstrate compassion.  I look forward to hearing what they learn.
