I just love the simple practice of learning a new poem together with our children each month. I used to make a photo copy of our monthly poem from one of my favorite poetry anthologies – A Child’s Book of Poems by Gyo Fugikawa, A Family of Poems by Caroline Kennedy & Poems to Read to the Very Young by Eloise Wilkins – and would slide in into a clear 8.5×11 standing acrylic frame to showcase the beautiful illustrations without tearing apart our books! In the past couple months however, I have simply written the poems on a blank sheet of paper and added line drawings in place of a few of the words. I think the personal touch has helped me connect more with the poem which is in turn passed along to our children. How do you display poetry at home?
